NEW YORK, Nov. 15 (Xinhua) -- U.S. stocks continued to decline on Thursday as weak economic data from both sides of the Atlantic Ocean added to the downward pressure on the market.

When the market closed, the Dow Jones Industrial Average fell 28.57 points, or 0.23 percent, to 12,542.38. The Standard & Poor's 500 was down 2.17 points, or 0.16 percent, to 1,353.32. The Nasdaq Composite Index dropped 9.87 points, or 0.35 percent, to 2,836.94.

Major indexes were on track for their largest monthly losses since May after the latest data showed the euro zone has slipped into a second recession since 2009 in the third quarter.

At the same time, weak data out of the United States also added the downward pressure.
