XI'AN, Dec. 18 (Xinhua) -- Zhao Zhengyong has been appointed secretary of the Shaanxi Provincial Committee of the Communist Party of China (CPC), according to the CPC Central Committee here on Tuesday.

He replaces Zhao Leji.

Wang Ercheng, vice head of the Organization Department of CPC Central Committee, announced the appointment at a meeting of the CPC Shaanxi provincial committee.

Wang said the personnel change was made based on an assessment of the overall position, the need of work, and the actual situation of Shaanxi's leadership buildup.

Zhao Zhengyong, 61, was appointed governor of northwest China's Shaanxi Province in January 2011.

Zhao Leji, 55, is currently a member of the Secretariat of the CPC Central Committee and head of the Organization Department of the CPC Central Committee.
