BEIJING, Aug. 28 -- Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi met with his Singaporean counterpart K. Shanmugam here on Wednesday.

During the meeting, Wang said the latest meetings between visiting Singaporean Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong and Chinese leaders have injected new momentum into the bilateral relationship. Lee is paying an official visit to China from Aug. 25 to 31 at the invitation of Chinese Premier Li Keqiang.

China and Singapore should make joint efforts to upgrade the bilateral relationship, Wang said.

Shanmugam said Singapore stands ready to implement the consensus reached between the two sides during Prime Minister Lee's visit to further boost cooperation between the two countries.

Shanmugam is in Beijing to attend a special China-ASEAN foreign ministers' meeting on Thursday to mark the 10th anniversary of the formation of the China-ASEAN strategic partnership.

Singapore will play a positive role in promoting the relationship between China and ASEAN, Shanmugam said.

ASEAN, or the Association of Southeast Asian Nations, comprises Brunei, Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand and Vietnam.
