GUANGZHOU, Jan. 31 (Xinhua) -- Zhu Xiaodan was re-elected governor of south China's Guangdong Province at the local parliamentary session on Thursday.

The election was made at the first session of the 12th Guangdong Provincial People's Congress, the local legislature.

Zhu, born in January 1953, is a native of Wenzhou, east China's Zhejiang Province. He has worked in Guangdong since 1971, holding jobs at a local musical instrument factory and in the Communist Youth League.

Zhu joined the Communist Party of China (CPC) in 1975, and has served as secretary of the CPC Guangzhou municipal committee since 2006.

He became Guangdong's vice governor in February 2010, and was appointed acting governor in November 2011.

Zhu was first elected governor of Guangdong in January 2012 at the fifth session of the 11th provincial People's Congress.

Guangdong has been China's largest provincial economy for more than two decades, generating more than one-tenth of the country's gross domestic product (GDP).

At the same session, Huang Longyun was elected chairman of the Standing Committee of the Guangdong Provincial People's Congress.
