Chinese naval taskforce concludes visit to Hawaii

HAWAII, Sep. 11 (ChinaMil) ---- The taskforce of the Navy of the Chinese People's Liberation Army (PLAN) which is visiting the United States, Australia and New Zealand concluded its three-day-long friendly visit to Hawaii at 09:00 on September 9, 2013, local time, and left the Pearl Harbor for Australia.

The U.S. navy held a short farewell ceremony for the Chinese naval taskforce at the pier, where Rear Admiral Richard L. Williams Jr., commander of the U.S. Navy Region Hawaii and the Naval Surface Group Middle Pacific, saw the taskforce off.

During the visit, the U.S. and Chinese navies conducted many exchange activities. Wei Gang, commander of the Chinese naval taskforce and chief of staff of the North China Sea Fleet of the PLAN, met with senior military-civilian leaders of the Hawaii region.

Nine generals/admirals from various services and arms of the U.S. including the Air Force, Marines, Navy, and Army in Hawaii region and their wives attended the deck reception held by the Chinese side.

The guided missile cruiser "USS Lake Erie", the U.S. accompanying ship for the visit, was open to the Chinese naval officers and men, while the Chinese guided missile destroyer "Qingdao" was open to the U.S. naval officers and men and their dependents, as well as overseas Chinese and Chinese nationals for three times successively.

Chinese sailors also visited the National Museum of the Pacific War, the "USS Missouri", and the "USS Arizona" Memorial.
